Ryan Connolly is the Founder and President of Triune Films which produces Film Riot on YouTube. Having graduated film school, Ryan has made several short films and commercials. Film Riot has produced dozens of you-build-it (DIY) style videos and equipment reviews/comparisons. Their best work is how-to videos on special effects. At the time of this article, Film Riot has 124,000+ subscribers and 38 million+ video views. I could not pick a favorite video, just too many good ideas. Dave Knop aka: Knoptop is an Indie filmmaker who’s Youtube channel is excellent. His series called “Quick FX” help the DIY users save money and create stunning special effects with very little money. Below is one of my favorite videos Dave has posted.

Scott Eggleston (aka: The Frugal Film Maker) got me interested in making a DIY camera support with a video he posted to YouTube. He has made some awesome videos with the same theme, make your own video equipment with very little money. I encourage everyone to subscribe to his YouTube Channel. It is fun to watch Scott build things for a few bucks, that you might pay a few hundred in a store.
